In Progress: Craftman Style Home Meets High Style

In this beautiful Plaza Midwood home the design challange was to infuse contemporary elements with the great craftmanship of the original architecture. Color direction was inspired by the tones and geometric shapes of the stain glass windows. With grass cloth walls, a metallic finished ceiling, capriz chandelier, and plush carpet these layers of texture create a warm, inviting place to gather for meals with family & friends.

In the Living Room, embracing the craftman style molding was key in providing the right balance of "then and now." Sleek, simplified drapery details and textured bamboo blinds add softness to the room without taking away the character and charm of the window molding. The sectional provides all the seating necessary and brings in another level of texture with chenille fabric, a chunky woven throw, and velvet pillows. The custom shaped ottoman provides functionality and style with durable, vinyl fabric, large space nailheads, and a shape that allow for easy flow through the space.

In Progress: Traditional Dining Room Infused with Contemporary Touches

This traditional Foxcroft Dining Room was a great blank canvas with beautiful moldings and architectural details. A custom finished iron base table and large glass top adds visual space and shows off the great scale of this room. Clean, contemporary hardware paired with intricate scalloped detail and luxurious sheers is just another example of how contemporary and traditional elements can be combined to create timeless design.

Bye Bye Mr. Yellow! We had fun here by getting rid of yellow walls (wrinkles/frown lines). We invited depth and expanded this room tremendously with a richer color to ceilings and walls, larger area rug, neutral furniture, and pops of color with pillows and client's exsisting art. Beautiful chandelier centers the room as well.

Kitchen

Before: I so dislike fans with lights....floors and cabinets TOO much the same color. UGLY and sure wish I could knock it all out and start over, but no.....

After: Icy grey paint with satin shine on existing cabinets and new cabinet hardware really help. Love the way the West Elm paper mache chandelier adds light and art above this 18th century Swedish chop block! (my big splurge!)

Nice change without alot of expense!

Kitchen and Dining Area

Before: Space feels (low ceiling) squatty and centered dining space make room tight...

In Progress: Creating balanced windows above and re-orienting lighting is already feeling better...

After: New dining space with custom banquette nestled against the glass creates more space. 9' long architectural table and Bertoia Chrome chairs that 'go away' visually help seat many guests! The best design...look at God's own work outside!!

Master Bedroom

Before: The original ceiling and fabulous wall of windows are the existing wow....

After: Handmade natural wallcovering from Philip Jeffries (silver nail heads on elephant manila hemp) was the start...one wall only/all I can afford....very organic. The textured sisal rug in silver grey calmed the floor down. The fun part is the bed. Fur, silk, cotton and graphic colorful bed throw from India all together and not competing. It's a happy, bright and soulful place to live in.

Guest Bedroom

Before: How can we make this guest mountain bedroom cozy and inviting...Windows are too small and wall color too mauve...

After: Enlarging windows to go floor to ceiling give this 8' space more visual height. Our white linen and grey taped functional drapery panels add warmth without being too heavy for the room. We papered one wall with a grey reptile paper for punch that sets off our West Elm Headboard.

Ahhhh....

Living Room

Before: Lots of white wall....decorating around small rug...uninteresting to say the least

After: Custom stained architectural tall bookcases with added light create great nook for loveseat. Huge white root table function and organic punch to the room. I love what textured rugs do to showcase great pieces and add warmth as well.

Upstairs Bonus Room

Before: This room has no windows yet one triangular shaped window looking down on Living Room. Hmmm... We discovered this would be the perfect space for a TV and lounging room with ready to work simulated office space....Let's see...

After: Incorporating textiles and rugs from travels this space allows for much activity but is user-friendly. The 14' long console/desk piece was created using West Elm Ready made components. A BIG help with the budget!

Existing Hall Bath

Problems...low soffets make 8' ceilings seem lower. Old white tile is stained and not interesting. Cabinet and laminate counter top.....Hmmmm...Do I say more? I am on a tight budget, but this has to go! Because of small space, this becomes the lower guest bath and powder room.

1920's Spanish House Reimagined

This 1920's Spanish house was re-imagined for a client who wanted a cleaner, more contemporary house that would showcase their extensive art collections.

Den (before, during & after)

Instead of moving to new home, 30 yr owners of this residence allowed old traditional dining room to be eliminated and Kitchen Gutted to now include an enlarged Kitchen/Butler's Pantry, and Keeping Room. Walls were opened to visually enlarge the existing foot without adding any additional square footage.

Baths and closets were created out of newly found spaces. The new home retains all the glamour of its 1920's Spanish heritage with newly clean lines.

An update to kitchen and dining areas was made possible by opening the old kitchen, laundry room, and breakfast area, to create one large space with large custom island and cooktop area, and a space-saving custom banquet.

Reuse for Small Myers Park Side Porch
